Although it lacks the singles and mainstream-hits of other deadmau5 studio albums, while(1<2) is one of the better enjoyed on a continuous mix, and one of our favorite overall works. But there aren’t any albums in Zimmerman’s discography that quite compare, stylistically (especially for the time), to while(1<2). The longer songs, haunting vocals, driving beats, it’s all there. In while(1<2), the lone double-album of his studio releases, he achieves an immaculate combination of new, and old. One could never peg deadmau5 for predictable, and the variety in his productions is further proof of that sentiment. It’s just more of a disjointed bunch, rather than an evolved traipse through styles that, by 2012, we knew he was capable of.The album still achieved plenty of commercial success, hitting number one on the US and UK ‘Dance Album’ charts, while receiving a nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 55th Grammy Awards. There’s a wide variety of sounds and we love hearing from deadmau5 on the album. >Album Title Goes Here Album Title Goes HereAlbum Title Goes Here< leaves us wanting more.
Break-beat, psy-trance, progressive house, and more make an appearance on the album, with more than a few whiffs of the style and structure from the deadmau5 we know today. A great retrospective on a major artist finding their sound and developing their style, Get Scraped is a fun, worthwhile look at dance music of a different era. With a couple of different releases, and adjustments to the track-list, Get Scraped is all of the eclectic-chaos of an artist trying out different styles that one could hope for. A necessary step in the process, Vexillology is our least favorite deadmau5 studio album, in a list full of high-quality productions. An undoubtedly more polished, and consistent sound than it’s predecessor, Vexillology lacks the bite and energy of future works.
